7 Signs that it’s Time for Rebranding

Brands are just like your clothes. You need to check every now and then whether they are fitting you well or whether you need a style upgrade? Rebranding is a long-term investment that infuses intensive marketing efforts with relevance and vigor, makes you stand out from a crowd, help you reach new audiences, attract industry talents, or allow you to rescale your products or services.

So, how do you know it’s time?

The sign that your brand needs redefinition can be just about anywhere. Often, if you are wondering if rebranding is necessary is the first sign. Or when something seems wrong. For instance, your product/service is great and your customers adore you, but your sales pipeline is fast drying up. Moreover, even if you recognize the need for rebranding, it can be hard to know whether it is urgent. Furthermore, even when you realize the urgent need, it may feel extremely difficult to actually work toward it. So, obviously the solution is to call up a branding agency to give your brand the much needed revamp. Whatever eventually impels you to reach out to a creative branding agency, you can rest assured that you’re making the right decision. With the amount of measurable benefits that come with rebranding, the investment is likely to pay off several times over.

Consider the following 7 telltale signs that may help you detect whether your brand is ready for an update:

  1. When you’re embarrassed to hand out your business card or web address

This happens quite often. People get their websites and collaterals made when they newly open their businesses and then go on using them. But if you cringe when asked to hand out your business card, be sure to heed the sign. Outdated, stale, lackluster, unoriginal—if that is how your corporate identity or web presence seem like, rush to a corporate branding agency fast before anyone notices.

  1. When your brand seems lost in the crowd

To sell your brand, you need to have a competitive edge. If you feel like your brand is lost in a sea of marketplace similarities, head out to a change by applying a creative brand strategy and why not? Repositioning and capitalizing on your unique selling propositions can make your brand grow exponentially, become more visible, and present an overall smarter appeal to the consumers who are searching for unique experiences.

  1. When your brand has become too complicated

Does your brand offer way too many diverse solutions or products with no centralized theme or concept? This can happen when you scale up. At such a time, having a simplified brand image that suitably sums up the brand values you wish to propagate, calls for a change. You need to step back to simplify things and focus. Remember, when it comes to branding, increased complexity means decreased cohesiveness.

  1. When your business model changed, but the brand remained unchanged

As if often the case, the goals of company keep changing every few (say 5) years. So, whether you have newly incorporated an innovative business strategy or explored an unforeseen marketplace or embraced the latest technology, your business model has changed. And when this happens, your brand must change as well, in parallel. Because now, your brand needs to be perceived in a slightly different way, in alignment with your new ways of operation. So, clearly, you need to overhaul the brand identity completely through some global branding scheme.

  1. When you are undergoing a merger or a split

Businesses keep changing their modes of operation or even management. If you have decided to merge with another company or maybe split, it is probably time to embrace a new identity so as to avoid confusion with your old self. This is critical to ensure that the new brand fits into the brand architecture of the now parent company. Unless this is done, all businesses involved are bound to suffer due to the lack of brand alignment.

  1. When there is a need to associate with a positive image

Considering that an unfortunate event or case had a devastatingly negative connotation on your business, which was then fast spread via the social media platforms, your brand value can suffer immensely. Under such a scenario, before the maligned image becomes toxic, transform your brand into a hero through effective and positive rebranding.

  1. When you need to raise your prices

Maybe you have been stuck with a particular market place rate for too long and wish to enter the premium segment to sell your wares at a higher price, it is time to rebrand. Because brand image ultimately boils down to a customer’s perception, the value of your offerings is entrenched in the minds of those you serve. By rebranding, you would be able to reshape the way your customers look at your brand and probably now, you can ask for a raised price for your services.

How to customize your WordPress site: A beginner’s guide

Firstly, if you are reading this blog, you are sure to know what WordPress is. Still, just a quick update. WordPress is an amazing platform that helps create websites and blogs quickly. It is relatively easy to master and comes with tons of useful features. Most importantly, it’s is extremely customization-friendly.

And, customization-friendly is what we are going to assess in this blog today. Overall, you can change anything and everything about your WordPress site. WordPress allows it all. This post is meant to be used as a guide to get you through the your first every successful WordPress customization from start to finish.

You can create a brand new website with WordPress. I am assuming that you’ve already installed WordPress on your domain via WordPress web hosting. So, let’s get started now, taking it slow and brief in step-wise succession. The steps are not necessary to be followed in the given order. This is just my preference for order to ensure that I have not missed out on anything. I have added screenshots wherever possible to help you comprehend the steps better. They are anyway relatively easy to follow.

Step 1: You are the Admin. Take Control!

By default, WordPress creates an admin level user called as admin. The problem with the default admin setting is that every hacker knows about this, and therefore admin is usually the first username they use when trying to bust into your site. Therefore, it is highly recommended to create a new admin user that’s not called admin as soon as you login.
Just after WordPress is installed, you’d be logging in with the admin account, and since you are the only user so far, you won’t be able to delete yourself. Therefore, you’ll need to create a new admin level user, log in as that new user, and then delete the default one. It is best to do this before you create any posts or pages to save the hassles later.

How?

  • Go to Users –» Add New.
  • Fill in the details.
  • Don’t use any username that is too generic or easily guessable.
  • Make sure that next to Role, you select Administrator from the drop-down menu.
  • Also, make a note of the password because you’ll need this to log in with the new account the next time.

  • Now, log out of WordPress and login as the new administrator.
  • Then go to Users –» All Users.
  • Hover over the old admin and click Delete.

Step 2: Set the Site Tagline, Title, Date, Time Format, and Time Zone

After installing your new WordPress website, you would see the default tagline “Just Another WordPress Site”. That doesn’t sound very professional, does it?

This tagline shows up on Google search results as well. Therefore, make sure that you change or remove it. For this, go to Settings –» General.

Date and time format are also under Settings –» General. This setting will affect the date/time display for your blog posts. This step is important, especially if you wish to schedule blog posts and other events, such as automatic backups.

Step 3: Activate/Delete Pre-Installed Plugins

When you first install WordPress, you’ll see Akismet and Hello Dolly plugins installed, albeit not activated.

There are no practical purposes for the Hello Dolly plugin, and it can be safely deleted without any issues. In fact, for security purposes, any plugin that isn’t active on your site should be removed because hackers like to hide their malicious code in old default themes and plugins.

Spam comments can be quite problematic too, as they may contain links that lead to malicious websites that are known for distributing malware. Experts say that such spam comments negatively influence your search engine rankings and hence the website’s reputation.

You can enable comment moderation in WordPress to prevent any comment from appearing without approval. However, as the quantity of spam grows, you will be spending considerable time moderating these comments.

How?

To fix this issue, you would need to activate the Akismet plugin—a WordPress anti-spam plugin. There is just one other plugin that come pre-installed on every WordPress website.

Step 4: Setup your WordPress SEO

SEO or Search Engine Optimization is used by website owners to obtain more traffic from Google and other popular search engines. Undoubtedly, WordPress is extremely SEO friendly. There is a lot you can do to optimize your SEO and achieve more traffic to your website.

Immediately after you have set up your website, set the SEO.

Yoast SEO plugin is highly recommended for this purpose, being one of the best WordPress SEO plugin that includes all of important SEO settings.

Step 5: Change the permalink structure

A permalink is the URL used to link your content. It should be permanent, and never change. Hence the name permalink.

The default permalink structure in WordPress is http://www.yoursite.com/?p=123

Where 123 indicates the WordPress ID assigned to your page. This structure is definitely not ideal, visually or otherwise. It is also not great for SEO as it doesn’t contain readable words.

So, let’s go ahead and change that.

How?

  • Go to Settings –» Permalinks.
  • You would see Common Settings.
  • Select the Post name and then click save changes.

Now onward, this URL will reflect the title of the post. For instance, if you post is “Decoding Digital Marketing in a Nutshell”, once you save the post, the URL will automatically be formatted as: https://www.incitech.com/decoding-digital-marketing-in-a-nutshell/

Step 6: Add a favicon

Favicon or Site Icon is a tiny image that appears next to your website title in the browser. It helps users identify your website and increases brand recognition among your most frequent visitors.

How?

  • First, create a square image of exactly 512×512 pixels in dimensions and save it in png, jpeg, or gif format.
  • Next, go to Appearance » Customize.
  • Click on the ‘Site Identity’ tab.
  • Under the ‘Site Icon’ section, click on the ‘Select File’ button to upload your favicon.
  • Finally, hit publish.

Step 7: Delete Default Content

WordPress places default content for use as placeholder items, for example, the blog post title “Hello World”, followed by dummy comment, and a sample page. When you have your content ready. You would need to delete the default content and place your content there.

How?

  • Go to Posts » All Posts
  • Move the cursor to the “Hello World” post
  • Click on the “Trash” link.

  • Visit Pages » All Pages
  • Delete the Sample Page.
  • Finally, visit the Comments page and delete the default comment.

Step 8: Delete Unused Themes

Normally we install multiple themes to check the requirement in hand. Once we find the perfect match, we usually leave the unused themes installed. However, since even inactive themes will need to be updated, be sure to delete them.

How?

  • Visit Appearance » Themes page
  • Click on an unused theme that you want to delete
  • This will bring up a popup showing theme details.
  • In the bottom-right corner of the popup you will see the link to delete the theme.

  • Repeat the process to delete all unused themes.

Step 9: Install Google Analytics to your WordPress Website

Knowing how your audience interact with your website is crucial for your site’s success, With Google Analytics, you can see stats like who is visiting your site, which posts are the most popular ones, and how users interact with your website.

How?

  • To get Google Analytics on your site, you first need to have google analytics account. For this, visit google.com.
  • If you don’t have an account yet, you can sign up with your Gmail account. Once your account is setup, you will get a Tracking ID.

  • This is a great way to install tracking information’s to the header or footer section without having to mess with the WordPress theme. Install and activate it.
  • Go to settings, copy the website tracking script from the google analytics account, and paste it in the header section, and save the changes.

Top 7 Reasons Why Your Website Is Not Drawing Sufficient Visitors

I am guessing you already have a website that you visit every day to understand what doesn’t make it tick. What could possibly be going wrong there? Why is the website not giving you visitors or clients? Why hasn’t your business blossomed since you got the website live? Well, there could be several reasons for this scenario. Let’s see some of the major reasons for why a website fails. Maybe this will help you understand what your next remedial measure should be.

1. Outdate website

It is highly probable that you website is seriously outdated in the way it looks to an outsider. The first impression decides it all. The only way out is to get your website analyzed by an expert designer to know if the technology, platform, design, and content are outdated. If yes, change them quick before your business reputation is affected negatively.

2. No SEO for your website?

Chances are that you never thought of hiring an SEO expert to optimize your website on search engines. If that is so, without any external help to improve your ranking on popular research engines such as Google, there are very few chances of the large web community to connect with you for the services or products you are offering. Also, a wrongly done SEO can hamper any potential success of your website. A smart choice of SEO service in a timely manner is therefore critical for prompt ROI.

3. Misaligned keywords

Try thinking like your potential customer and visit your website. Did you find the information you were looking for instantly? No? This could be a case of misaligned keywords. Search keywords and key phrases are important for effective SEO. If the keywords used on your webpage does not fit the context of the page of if it is totally absent, you visitors would find it hard to understand what you do. Send out a clear message in a powerful manner to make it work.

4. Stale content

Is the content on your website boring and tedious to read? With the shortening attention span of web readers, it has become of paramount importance that your content be engaging, driving, attractive, and fun to read. The content should be concise, clear, and informative so that a reader gets all his queries answered with one quick look. Nobody reads long articles.

5. Ignored local search

If people living around you cannot find you when they need you through your website, isn’t the existence of your website inconsequential? I believe that every website should be first made popular locally before expanding its geographies. This can be done by creating online listing and keeping it updated for people to easily find you on local search.

6. Lack of stimulation

Is your website the kind that does not stimulate the visitor to explore it fully? Well, a great looking, impactful website that has this stimulation factor makes its visitor check it out completely. You can do this by ensuring the attractiveness of the website and using powerful blog-driven strategies that makes a user share the link to website on social networking sites as well.

7. No tracking or analytics

Website analysis would allow you to identify what works on your website and what does not. Unless the website is tracked to understand user physiology and response pattern, you can only guess what the user wants and whether you have been successful in providing it. Analytics also helps understand what drives traffic and help you make decisions regarding what valuable data needs to be placed where and how for your website to succeed. Needless to say, if you have identified the fault with your website, it’s time for some remedial action. The best course of action would be to get your website analyzed by experts and work on their suggestions. INCI Tech does a Free Website Consultation. Try it out if you need to.

There are chances that there may be some problems within the website like broken links, spelling errors, out-of-date information, etc., that should be addressed at the soonest possible to avoid customers noticing them.

Constant refreshment

Obviously, you would always have new products to be sold and older (out-of-stock) materials to be removed from your website. Also, the prices of the offer product may change, requiring you to reflect that change on your website. Similarly, product descriptions and product images would also benefit from regular update.

Exploring new sales opportunities

The advent of Facebook e-commerce (or ‘F-commerce’) and m-commerce (selling through smartphones and tablets) has created newer methods and newer markets for selling products and services. Evidently, social media and mobile internet devices have increased the opportunities for e-commerce sales. You, of course, would like to explore all such new avenues that catch up to your customers.

Keeping safe from threats

A website is continuously attacked or at least receives threats from hackers, viruses, scams, and security risks.
